About Jazz, classical & lounge
Jazz radio, live from Paris: Ziad Rahbani's Beirut jazz on Jazz Rahbani in the morning, and Satie, Debussy and Bach on Salonesque, earlier still. Before dawn, Gabagool sets the table with Ella Fitzgerald and Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, Renato Carosone and Rubén González — free, on Wa3's Random channel.
Jazz Rahbani is built around Ziad Rahbani, the Lebanese pianist, composer and playwright whose work folds jazz and funk into Arabic music; his instrumentals, overtures and interludes are the core of the show. Around him: Charif Megarbane from Beirut, the Algerians Safy Boutella and Ahmed Malek, and Omar Khorshed's Egyptian guitar.
Wa3 keeps all three for the morning and the hours before it. Jazz Rahbani has the mornings; Salonesque, earlier, is piano and orchestra — Satie's Gymnopédie, Debussy's Clair de lune, Bach's Air, Beethoven, Saint-Saëns's swan. Gabagool, before dawn, sets the table: Ella Fitzgerald with Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, Renato Carosone, Rubén González's piano. Music for waking up slowly, reading or working.
